Applications for Pugmill Mixers
Our versatile and hard-working Pugmills can be deployed across a wide variety of applications. Here are just a few examples:
Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) – a low slump concrete, placed with asphalt paving equipment and compacted with vibratory rollers. Simple, economical, fast concrete used in dams and heavy duty storage areas. The Pugmill paddles force this low slump concrete to mix thoroughly and discharge evenly. Precise control of water and cement is required.
Cement Treated Base (CTB) – road base stabilized with cementing materials such as cement, asphalt, or flyash. CTB provides great strength and durability as a low cost road base. CTB is hauled in dump trucks, laid with box spreaders or grade control equipped bulldozers, and compacted by rollers.
Cold Mix Asphalt – cold mixes are made with cutback asphalt or emulsified asphalt. Aggregate material may range from dense crusher run material to a granular soil with a high percentage of particulate matter. Mixing is performed with a portable or stationary Pugmill plant, equipped with an asphalt pump, meters, and belt scale.
Hazardous Soil Remediation – mixing contaminated soil with cement in a pugmill so that the contaminants cannot leach out. The Pugmill paddles force contaminated soil and sludge to mix with cleanup reagents or stabilizing agents. The stabilized material is usually landfilled.
Oil Well Drill Cutting Stabilization – drill cuttings are screened from drilling mud, and then the wastes are mixed in a pugmill with lime or flyash in order to be transported to a landfill.
Flowable Backfill - is a low strength concrete material suitable as a backfill for utility trenches, abandoned pipes, manholes and valves. It is a heavy material and will exert a high fluid pressure against any forms, embankment, or wall used to contain the backfill.
Flyash Stabilization – wetting Flyash, Bottom ash, or FGD (Flue Gas Desulfurization) before landfilling.
Lime Addition – lime added to the cold feed of an asphalt plant as an anti-striping agent.
